Wastewater Case Studies

Project : Wastewater Treatment for a Mass Transit Railway System Construction Site
Client : A Foundation Specialist
Location : Tseung Kwan O, Kowloon
Date of Completion : September 1999
Treatment Capacity : 20m3/hour for Wastewater Treatment System
Wastewater Characteristics: In this construction site, wastewater is discharged as a result of several types of construction activities, such as vehicle cleaning, ground water collection, site spraying, rainwater collection, etc. This kind of wastewater usually carries large amount of sand, grit, mud and other suspended solids particles. Since the wastewater is discharged to the storm drain, it will cause blockage of the drainage pipeworks and potential pollution to the water receiving body if the wastewater is not properly treated.
Work Scope : In order to treat the wastewater to acceptable level, HKPC was commissioned by client to install our developed HKPC-AquaSed that has adopted chemical enhanced sedimentation technology. With the influent suspended solids concentration of about 31,000mg/L ~ 40,000mg/L, the effluent was treated to 5mg/L ~ 12mg/L, which is in compliance with discharge limit established by the Environmental Protection Department.
Project : Wastewater Treatment For a Residential Development Site
Client : A Construction Contractor
Location : Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon
Date of Completion : November 2003
Treatment Capacity : 30m3/hour wastewater treatment system c/w Neutralization Unit
Wastewater Characteristics: Significant amount of cement, sand, grits, and other suspended solids particles were identified in the discharged water with noticeable amount.
Work Scope : HKPC was commissioned to provide the wastewater treatment system with proprietary hardware design to enhance the wastewater treatment efficiency. In order to accomplish the client's requirement, HKPC-AquaSed was implemented with the Neutralization Unit as well. With the influent suspended solids concentration recorded as 3,100mg/L, the effluent was treated to less than 5mg/L and the pH value reduced to 9.0. Hence, the discharged effluent complied with the discharge limits established by the Environmental Protection Department.
Project : Wastewater Treatment For a Residential Development Site
Client : A Construction Contractor
Location : Kennedy Town, HK Island
Date of Completion : April 2002
Treatment Capacity : 20m3/hour for the Wastewater Treatment System c/w Neutralization Unit
Wastewater Characteristics: Wastewater is discharged from this residential development site mainly due to construction activities such as: casting, rainwater collection, vehicle cleaning and site spraying, etc. Cement, sand, grits, and other suspended solids particles were identified in the discharged water.
Work Scope : Our HKPC-AquaSed and the Neutralization Unit are well known to be an effective wastewater treatment system, which utilizes very limited space for installation. Therefore the client commissioned HKPC to install the HKPC-AquaSed wastewater treatment system. With the influent suspended solids concentration of 90mg/L, the discharged effluent was treated to less than 5mg/L with pH value reduced to 7.4. Hence, the discharged effluent complied with the discharge limits established by the Environmental Protection Department.
Project : Wastewater Treatment for a Tunnel Construction Site
Client : A Joint Venture Construction Company
Location : Shueng Shui, Kwu Tung
Date of Completion : April 2003
Treatment Capacity : 40m3/hour for the Wastewater Treatment System c/w Neutralization Unit
Wastewater Characteristics: In this tunnel construction site, wastewater was collected from surface runoff, ground water, site spraying and rain, etc. The discharged wastewater contains significant amount of sand, cement, mud and other suspended solids particles.
Work Scope : With the influent contains suspended solids with concentration of around 150mg/L, HKPC-AquaSed was adopted. The discharged was treated to approximately 8mg/L with pH value of 9.1, and hence achieved the discharge standard established by the Environmental Protection Department.
Project : A Wastewater Treatment System for a Railway Station Construction Site
Client : A Foundation Specialist
Location : Sham Shui Po, West Kowloon
Date of Completion : April 2002
Treatment Capacity : 80m3/hour for the Wastewater Treatment System c/w Neutralization Unit
Wastewater Characteristics: The wastewater originated from this construction site contains noticeable amount of sand, silt, cement, and other suspended solids particles. In this regards, direct discharge without appropriate treatment is not allowed.
Work Scope : With the influent suspended solids concentration of about 230mg/L, HKPCAquaSed was installed for wastewater treatment. The discharged effluent achieved the suspended solids content of approximately 6mg/L, and hence accomplished the standard of the discharge limit, established by the Environmental Protection Department.
Project : Wastewater Treatment for a Decontamination Site
Client : A Civil Contractor
Location : To Kau Wan, Lantau Island
Date of Completion : November 2002
Treatment Capacity : 40m3/hour for the Wastewater Treatment System c/w Neutralization Unit
Wastewater Characteristics: Significant amount of cement, sand, grits, and other suspended solids particles were identified in the discharged water with noticeable amount.
Work Scope : Wastewater is generated from a decontamination site in virtue of various types of site activities, such as vehicle cleaning, site spraying, surface runoff and biopiling leachate collection and the pretreated wastewater from the process for soil decontamination. The discharged wastewater contains sand, soil residues and other suspended solids particles that exceed the discharge limit set by the Environmental Protection Department.
